Rated 4 out of 5 by LinuxUser6502 from Ok with Windows, far better with Linux. Used two of these. With an i3 it's problems are from Windows 8.1 being a train wreck in terms of its user interface. With a Celeron 1.8 / 1.9 GHz it is hesitant under Windows 8.1, converting to dual boot Linux requires changes to the EUFI, but is well worth the effort. Using Linut Mint 17, /home and Swap partitions can be added. Under Linux, the G500 shines- running far more smoothly and responsively. A decent computer under Windows, but an excellent value under Linux- everything seems to work with Mint 17. Keyboard and screen could be better, screen seems to work better under the official Intel drivers for Linux. If you are a heavy typist, get a Thinkpad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by unholygrail1 from Took a chance - Reaping the rewards! I wanted a low cost 3rd laptop to experiment on, and since I already own a P580 (and fell in love with the accu-type keyboard), I decided on the G500(59372002). I then proceeded to add an additional 4 gigs of ram, and swapped out the hard drive with a 256 gig ssd loaded with a popular linux distribution. I may have been a little apprehensive at first, unsure of what kind of performance could be achieved with the Celeron processors, but I can assure you that it is of no consequence on this set up. This machine is now lightning fast, a pleasure to use and in my humble opinion, a great bargain. And I love the accu-type keyboard!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lynda from Great deal I purchased a Lenovo G500 laptop from Best Buy. It had been a display model for only two months (I bought it in December of 2013 and it's production date is October of 2013). It has a 3rd generation Intel i5 processor, a terabyte hard drive, 4gb of ram and 4-5 hours of battery life which was fine for me. The price had been reduced to $380.00 so I bought it before someone else did. I love the keys and the full keyboard with the ten key. I love this laptop, the i5 processor uploads graphics in a flash. The G500 has a manual the tells you how to remove the hard drive and add more ram. Best buy updated the operating system to windows 8.1, I now prefer it to windows 7.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ripov from Could do better Machine - looks good, feels nice, maybe a bit heavy, hinges and battery retaining clips are flimsy, screen has very small viewing angle. Funtion keys would be better with function as default. SD slot has cover; would be better to have one over the camera! OS - W8 - what a shambles. Runs quickly on this machine though. Incidentally Blutooth worked beautifully till I "upgraded" to W8.1 Installed software - nothing installed that I use, have deleted the lot. One key restore works well, but it deletes any partitions you have made, making the 1TB drive useless except for items of no value, An external drive is essential to keep files safe. Even Windoze is not that stupid!!
