    Ultrathin and Ultralight

The ThinkPad X240 is the thinnest and lightest ThinkPad laptop we offer. Weighing in at less than 1.36 kg and measuring 20.3mm at its thickest point, the X240 is ultraportable — without sacrificing anything in terms of ports, connectivity, or durability.

Award-Winning Keyboard Further Enhanced for Windows 8

Full-sized and spill-resistant, the legendary ThinkPad ergonomic keyboard is renowned for its full array of keys, excellent feel, and TrackPoint® pointing device. And now it's optimized for Windows 8 with convenient multimedia buttons, LED status indicators, Function-lock capability, and immediate access to view apps. Plus, a larger, smooth TrackPad with 5-point click integration — indicated by subtle bumps and stripes — can be configured multiple ways through Settings. Optional backlight makes working in dark environments effortless.

    4th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors

4th generation Intel® Core™ processors deliver the performance to increase productivity for your business. Devices turn on in an instant and are always up-to-date. You can multitask quickly and move effortlessly between applications, collaborate wirelessly in a high quality videoconference — all with the convenience of longer battery life. Plus, you can guard against identity theft and ensure safe access to your network with built-in security features. In fact, the only thing more amazing than an Intel Core processor-based PC is what your users will do with it.

    Intel® vPro Technology

Makes enterprise-level manageability even more convenient and cost-saving. Manage, protect, repair, or locate your deployed laptops from anywhere in the world.

    HD/FHD Display With IPS Technology

In-Plane Switching (IPS) LCD displays with high brightness. IPS technology allows for vivid colors and nearly 180-degree viewing angles.

    Power Bridge Technology

Combining an internal battery with an external hot-swappable battery, Power Bridge provides flexibility and maximum battery life. Swap batteries without powering down your laptop, using an extra travel battery to increase your time between charges to 10 hours or more.

    Ultradurable Construction & MIL-SPEC Tested

Innovative roll-cage technology adds extra strength and rigidity to the notebook shell and top cover (carbon fiber top with magnesium bottom for maximum strength without adding weight). Military-specification testing validates the ruggedness, durability, and quality of ThinkPad products by testing against eight parameters: high pressure, humidity, vibration, high temperature, temperature shock, low pressure (15,000 ft), low temperature, and dust.

    NFC Technology

Near Field Communication (NFC) provides an easy, secure way to share data, link devices, pair with networks, and other tasks by lightly tapping two devices together.

    VGA Port

Many customers still require a VGA port for projector connections in conference rooms, and native VGA means no dongles for them to buy/lose/replace.

    Capacitive Touch Panel

A capacitive touch panel allows for impeccable response time to 10-finger touch. Actions trigger immediately, and the cursors follow your fingers around the screen without any perceptible lag or delays.

    Fast Data Transfer

Move data between the X240 and other devices quickly with USB 3.0 — it's up to 10 times faster than previous USB technologies and backward-compatible with USB 2.0.

Fantastic quality screen, easily readable in all light conditions. Very good keyboard. It's great that the machines don't come packed with bloatware like other PCs. Once you invest a bit of time to fully understand all the options, it is good to be able to fully spec a machine from lenovo. The Digital River phone line team were very quick to answer and very helpful.
The lenovo website wasn't that clear on the physical difference in size between the 9 cell and 6 cell batteries, but reviews on the web were helpful.

When working properly this is as close to a tablet as you can get without being tethered to network and suffering a greasy screen. Boots from cold in seconds, quick and good enough for photo editing in the field and on an EIZO back at base. 13 hours of battery with both cells fully charged probably will get a spare swapper for field trips.
Not enough USB ports and intermittent failure of LED display back light means this one is going back to be replaced with a fault free model.

It is light weight and has good battery life.
I don't like the keyboard (keys are too flat, and they are not arranged in the way I want them). The mouse buttons built into the track pad is extremely disadvantageous for someone who never wants to use the track pad ever (if you turn off the track pad, the mouse buttons no longer work). The fact that there aren't differentiated mouse buttons, just different places where you click, means that touch typing becomes a whole lot more complicated. Do Not Like.

  • Ask an Owner

Here's a list of the questions other shoppers have asked owners of the X240

    1. Elcid asked on
Can I use this for huge programs such as Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4d ??? Can I also use it for gaming such as League of Legends and Dota 2 ??? Thanks
      1. Tryphonas replied on
I'm pretty sure you can based on the fact that it has the latest processors. However I have not run any of those programs on the machine myself so couldn't guarantee anything. Never had a problem with mine coping with anything I throw at it. Hope this helps.
    2. David asked on
I've bought an x240 with a docking station - do you know if I'll be able to power dual monitors from the VGA slot and/or one of the USBs? Thanks
      1. Paul replied on
Check that your docking station has a display port and a vga port. If so you can use one VGA cable and one Display Port to VGA cable
    3. Adam asked on
Is it worth paying the extra for an i7 processor if you do not use the laptop for gaming; only business applications such as Outlook, Word and internet, although all may be running at the same time?
      1. Peter replied on
        No i wouldn't bother
      2. Tryphonas replied on
I would pay the extra as I use it all the time even a small difference becomes noticeable over time.
      3. Tom replied on
Definitely not! It's the SSD that matters far more.
    4. Claire asked on
If I buy a rear 6 cell battery to add on to the ThinkPad X240 is this actually external, or is it integrated inside the body of the machine ?
      1. Chris replied on
The 3 cell is integrated the 6 cell is removable I also bought a spare! If you get the. SSD option you my not need it I get a huge battery life from the two batteries as it is.

      2. Paul replied on
Chris is correct. On this model the 6 cell is always connected into the battery bay. Only the 3 cell can be installed internally.
Also, I have a model with 256 SSD and both the 3 cell & the 6 cell batteries installed I managed to get 15 hours of use out of it. This was only light use e.g. emails and updates etc. but still impressive
    5. A shopper asked on
Can i order an X240 with an expresscard slot?
      1. Peter replied on
      2. Tryphonas replied on
